Minangkabau or commonly abbreviated as Minang is a native ethnic group of the archipelago whose cultural distribution area covers an area now included in the province of West Sumatra (except Mentawai Islands), half of Riau mainland, northern part of Bengkulu, western part of Jambi, west coast of North Sumatra, southwest Aceh , and Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. In layman's conversation, Minang people are often equated as Padangese, referring to the name of the capital city of West Sumatra province, Padang. However, this community usually refers to the group as urang Crew, which means the same as the Minang people themselves.

According to A.A. Navis, Minangkabau is more about ethnic culture than a Malay family that grows and grows because of the monarchical system and adopts a unique adat system. This society has implemented a proto-democratic system since pre-Hindu times with a tradition of deliberation and the existence of customary density to determine legal issues or other important matters. The Minangkabau adat principle is stated briefly in the statement of Adat basandi syarak, syaris basandi Kitabullah (Adat based on law, law based on Al-Qur'an), which means adat based on Islamic teachings. Today the Minang community is the largest matrilineal community in the world, even though the culture itself is very strongly colored by the teachings of Islam.

Minangkabau people are very prominent in the field of commerce, as professionals and intellectuals. They are respected heirs of the old traditions of the Malay and Sriwijaya Kingdoms who liked to trade and were dynamic. Thomas Stamford Raffles, after an expedition to the center of the Kingdom of Pagaruyung in the interior of the Minangkabau, noted, Minangkabau was a source of strength and origin of the Malays, whose population was then widely spread in the Eastern Islands. Nearly half the total members of this community are overseas and in general they live in big cities, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Pekanbaru, Medan, Batam, Palembang and Surabaya. Outside of Indonesia, there are many Minang ethnicities in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Singapore, Jeddah, Sydney, and Melbourne.

And This is the picture of Traditional House of Minangkabau, Its named Rumah Gadang.

In addition to being a residence for the Minangkabau community, Rumah Gadang is able to draw the attention of tourists, not only from within the country, but also from abroad. Most of them are interested in looking at beautiful building architecture with a variety of carvings on the walls.

Rectangular without symmetry, Rumah Gadang has a unique building design. Impressed swooping up, the outside of the building slightly tilted outwards. This is strongly influenced by natural conditions in the Minangkabau region which are dominated by high and low altitude so that it is earthquake resistant.

The roof is no less unique. Having a curved shape like a horn, Rumah Gadang comes with several pointed and pointed roof angles. This design is intended so that when it rains, water can flow directly down so it does not overload the building.

But of all the architectural concepts, perhaps the height of the building that attracts the most attention. Made of wood, Rumah Gadang stands two meters above the ground supported by a pillar resting on a flat rock that is strong and wide.
