Who is the creator of noodles
Do You Like
Noodles?
I think every people like noodles.
Do you know, who is the creator of
instant noodles?
Momofoku Ando
Ando is a Taiwanese-born Japanese
businessman who was born on March 5, 1910. He is known worldwide for his
services in creating the world's first instant ramen in 1958 under the name
Chickan Ramen. Ando died in 2007 at the age of 96 due to heart failure.
Even so, Ando admits one of the
secrets that is long-lived because of Ramen Chicken almost every day. When he
died, he died as a wife named Masako, and two children, one son and one
daughter.
He created instant
noodles because of the scarcity of food in Japan
Ando experienced a shortage of food
in Japan in the post-World War II era. At that time, after surrendering, the
Japanese government encouraged people to eat bread instead of noodles. The
reason was because the noodle company at that time was very unstable in meeting
consumer demand.
Ando was inspired to make Chicken
Ramen in 1958. Noodles are made by spraying steamed and seasoned noodles in hot
oil. At the time the production cost was 6 times that of ordinary noodles.
Slowly, Ando's instant noodle business is going well.
After a business trip to the United
States in 1971, he noticed how Americans ate noodles. Ando was inspired to sell
his product in the now famous polystyrene cup. This concept makes hot noodles
last longer.
He was jailed for tax
Just before establishing his
'noodle' kingdom, Ando worked in finance and sat on the Credit Union board in
Japan. In 1948, according to news of his death in the Los Angeles Times, Ando
was apparently jailed for avoiding taxes.
But Ando claimed he was giving
college scholarships to poor students. At that time it was considered illegal
in Japan. Immediately after his release, Ando was completely bankrupt and lost
almost everything. Previously he was also known to have a textile shop, which
is a family business. When he discovered enlightenment through the innovation
of instant noodles, Ando also recently founded his company called Nissin to
produce salt in Osaka.
He chose chicken as
the first taste in his noodles
In his 2002 autobiography entitled
'How I Invented Magic Noodles', Ando wrote that he specifically chose chicken
as the first taste of his instant noodles. According to Ando, chicken
consumption is not prohibited in any religion.
There are two
museums that dedicate the figure of Momofoku Ando
There is a museum dedicated to Ando
in the city of Ikeda in Osaka, Japan. It's called the Momofuku Ando Instant
Ramen Museum, with free admission. There is also the CupNoodles museum in
Yokohama. Inside the museum, visitors can make their own cup of noodles using
various ingredients.
In 2005 Ando felt proud because at
that time Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi succeeded in bringing instant
noodles that had been packaged in a special vacuum in his plane. Ando said, "I
have realized my dream that noodles can go into space."
Every year in Texas, United States
there is a celebration of Momofuku Ando Day. This began in 2007, right in the
month of Ando's death in a hospital in Dallas. The purpose of this celebration
is to honor this legendary figure.
