6 Step Hand Hygiene Technique
World Health Organization (WHO)
states washing hands with soap is one effective way to prevent the spread of
corona virus. This method is more effective at killing viruses than using a
hand sanitizer.
Hand washing is highly recommended,
especially if you still have activities outside the home. Corona virus can
stick to various surfaces that you might hold.
In daily life many diseases spread
through the hands, therefore the following indications are washing hands :.
- Before and after contact with client skin or body
fluids
- Before doing aseptic techniques
- Before handling food
- If it looks dirty
- After from the toilet
- After contact with dirty or potentially contaminated
equipment
- After removing the gloves
1. Spread the soap with both hands.
2. Rub the back and between the
fingers of the left hand with the right hand and vice versa.
3. Rub your palms and between your
fingers
4. The back of the finger of the
right hand is rubbed against the left palm with the inner fingers of both hands
interlocking.
5. Left hand rubbed thumb rotates in
the grip of the right hand and vice versa.
6. Rub rotating the tips of the
fingers of the right hand on the palm of the left hand and vice versa.
Research conducted by infection
experts JM Boyce MD and Didier Pittet MD in 2002 also revealed that failure to
perform hand hygiene is a major cause of nosocomial infections (infections that
occur as a result of health services in hospitals after 48 hours or more).
"For that, one way to break the chain of transmission of infection is to
strive for hand hygiene," said Chairman of the Persahabata Jakarta
Hospital Infection Control Team, Dr. Endang Woro H SpPK.
