Disability and Diffable. What's the Difference?


 
You must have often heard the word disability and diffable. But unfortunately not a few of them know what is diffable and what is diffability. Many think that difable and disability are two words that have the same meaning.Although this word sounds almost the same, but actually has a different meaning. Both of these terms are currently used to replace the term with a disability to describe the condition of a person who cannot carry out activities like normal and healthy people.

What is disability?
Disability is a condition of activity limitation due to physical, intellectual, mental or sensory limitations for a long period of time. People with disabilities will experience obstacles and difficulties to participate fully and effectively with the surrounding environment based on equal rights.

The Origin of the Term for Disability
Meanwhile, the word disability comes from English, disability which means loss of ability. This term is usually combined with the word persons (persons with disabilities).

Disability refers to disability that is owned by someone, and is influenced by the surrounding environment that does not meet the needs of persons with disabilities. This certainly inhibits persons with disabilities during their activities.

The term disability is more appropriate to use than the word disability. Because, it is feared the word defect can lead to various interpretations. To avoid this, the use of the word disability is recommended.

If later the conditions and abilities can be fulfilled, they can no longer be called persons with disabilities. The term disability is also more often used internationally. As a conclusion of disability and disability differences, the use of the word disability is more appropriate because it is contained in the legal basis, while for the diffable is more used in everyday vocabulary.

There are four types of disabilities, namely:

  • Physical disability: Amputation, paralysis, paraplegi, stroke, disability due to leprosy, cerebral palsy (CP).
  • Intellectual disability: Down syndrome, cretinism, microcephaly, macrosphaly, and scaphosis.
  • Mental disability: Schizophrenia, dementia, bipolar affective, mental retardation.
  • Sensory disability: blind disability, hearing disability, and speech disability.

Understanding disability is indeed quite complex and illustrates the interaction between the movements of a person's body with others in the surrounding environment.

For example, a person suffering from cerebral palsy (a muscular disorder) has difficulty walking and moving because his legs are stiff and feel tight. This condition is called disability. However, this disability can be reduced by walking aids and also physical therapy.

What is diffable?
In general, the term diffable is a more refined and polite form to describe the condition of someone who has a disability. Difabel is a condition of someone who has problems with the structure or organs of the body such as disability which results in functional limitations related to the activity of the sufferer. Difabel also refers more to the limited role in daily life in society.

For example, someone with cerebral palsy can still fulfill his role like a normal person. He can still be a student at school, a good citizen in the community, and a child at home, despite his physical limitations.

Due to physical therapy and with the help of assistive devices his condition slowly improves and can move normally like friends and those around him. People with physical disabilities who play the role of normal people are called disabilities.


Disability or disability, which one is used?
It can be concluded as a term of disability and disability together as an assessment of a person's condition that corrects both physical and mental deficiencies. However, in terms of diffable sounds more polite and refined to explain the condition of people who have limitations. With reference to the disability intended by these people, they cannot carry out activities like normal people in need.


International Disability Day or International Disability Day is an international memorial driven by the United Nations since 1992 and is celebrated every December 3. This commemoration aims to develop community insights on issues that occur related to the lives of people with disabilities and provide support to improve the dignity, rights and welfare of people with disabilities.
